The Colburn School provides young people who possess a passion for music, dance, and drama access to quality instruction so they may further explore their interests and continue developing their talents. Our renowned faculty, including professional performers from nationally and internationally acclaimed companies, guide you through classes appropriate and catered to your age and skill level. Young beginners in the Colburn Community School of Performing Arts start by mastering the basics and build confidence with each new level of achievement. High school students hone their skills in the Colburn Music or Dance Academies, and college-age students prepare for careers in the performing arts through diploma and degree programs at the Colburn Conservatory of Music. Every year our students and faculty present hundreds of free or affordable performances in our beautiful, professional theaters on campus as well as in prestigious venues around Los Angeles.
In fact, the Colburn School is conveniently located at the center of the thriving downtown arts corridor. We’re surrounded by the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, The Music Center, and Grand Performances at California Plaza. Also in the neighborhood are the Museum of Contemporary Art and Los Angeles Public Library. Our staff and faculty are committed to bringing music performances and education into the greater community so others can experience the many benefits associated with the performing arts. The Colburn School partners with 15 Los Angeles Unified School District schools, 13 of which receive Title I funding, providing interactive and engaging concerts and instructional sessions to 5,000 students every year.
Our goal is to accommodate students in developing a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts whenever possible without the constraints of financial concerns. We award $500,000 need-based scholarships to the Colburn Community School of Performing Arts every year.
We strongly encourage beginners and burgeoning professionals to learn more about how you can become a member of the Colburn School community.

Catalina Jazz Club
Contemporary Jazz
The American dream came true for Catalina Popescu in October of 1986 when she and her husband Bob created a supper club devoted to serving an experience of superb eats and the shared magic of live performance. That grand experience began at the door where every night her mother Maria would greet each guest as family and share in their love of music. Housed in Hollywood and decked out in a timeless charm, the club offers a cozy ambience under sparkling stage lights garnished with its signature concoction — Jazz. The first artist to grace the stage was the masterful flutist and saxophonist Buddy Collette, and ever since then, over the past 36 years, the Catalina Jazz Club has hosted the most illustrious legends of all time — from the powerful puffers of Dizzy Gillespie to the electrified fingers of McCoy Tyner, the bubbly belt of Dee Dee Bridgewater and Lynda Carter, the flirtatious saxophone of Joshua Redman, the slick strumming of Kenny Burrell, the insane drum clinic of Steve Gadd, the romance of Steve Tyrell, and the masterclass of Mike Stern.
For Catalina, Jazz is our way of life. It breathes pain. It knows love. It dreams hope. It bleeds courage. Whether we’re showcasing Broadway, Soul, R&B, or stand-up comedy, the lesson learned from all the greats who have serenaded our spirits is how to connect to one another. And that’s why the Catalina Jazz Club will always have a table ready for you.
The Catalina Jazz Club has been honored by A.S.M.A.C., California Jazz Foundation, Los Angeles Jazz Society, and a City of Los Angeles Certificate of Appreciation on their 25th Anniversary, which was awarded by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the LA City Council which included then City Council member and current Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.
