    Claire Michelle

    Indie Rock

Claire writes music that touches people. Her spirit and energy captivates people. Who she is is best described by her fan mail.

“It was like an angel touched my ears and held me and told me everything will be okay. I felt as if my heart was being hugged by a warm blanket on a crisp fall morning. I cried while driving. It’s not my usual style of music but holy cow I felt the chills.” – Jess Bruner on Fall

“I stumbled across one of your vlogs today and I just could not stop watching. You seem to have a have a beautiful spirit! You touched my heart. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your videos and listening to more of your music.” – Steven Root

“Hi Claire, I just wanted to say you and your story are inspirational. I have slowly begun coming out as transgender over the past year, and you have shown me that it is possible to live your dream and be who you’re meant to be.” – Carly Kepart

    Soul

There are some voices that wilt against the howling wind. Some voices that can’t rise above the clamor of clinking glasses and lustful patrons. But Julia Francis does not have just some voice. Hers, which rides the exquisite sonic swells of her band, is a voice like a muscle car screeching down a stretch of rainy midnight road.

Julia and her band harken to the formation days of rock ‘n’ roll and soulful blues music. With mind clearing guitar solos and pronounced rhythmic strolls, the music, like a bursting cloud, washes out the gutters of one’s own mind time and time again.

And while it’s nearly impossible not to picture the great Janis Joplin when you hear Francis tear into a mic, there is more than sweet homage embedded in the songs and epic vocal performances. There is relationship and pain, bridges and waves, sunsets and daydreams in the front woman’s tone, whether she is reinterpreting classic roots or sharing brand new compositions on her guitar, Positive Annie.

Julia Francis’ last album of original songs, Lucky Penny, was released in 2008, produced by Violent Femmes drummer Victor DeLorenzo, and featuring Seattle session virtuosos Jeff Fielder, Andy Stoller and Ben Smith. Julia is currently working on a new recording project with her band and members of South Seattle’s vibrant music community. The wisdom in Julia’s music teaches listeners new ways to believe in that which you can’t always see.

    Diamondwolf

    Alternative Country

Award-winning Seattle band Diamondwolf is two long-time locals in harmony. Alicia Dara has been a member of the Seattle music community for 15 years, released 5 solo records and fronts indie rock band The Volcano Diary. Glen Cooper is a local musician and improv actor. They met 13 years ago and reconnected in 2012. An EP of 2 originals and three covers was released in 2013. The CD release at the Crocodile for their first EP sold out, and they got a reputation for red-hot acoustic shows with skilled close-harmony singing that evokes The Civil Wars and Band of Horses.

Diamondwolf has won awards for their songs, one for the haunting ballad "Swansong" and another for the rousing anthem "Cool Blue Fire". Both songs will appear on their upcoming full-length debut CD, due in early 2015.

Both Alicia and Glen are multi-instrumental, and they played most of the tracks on their upcoming CD, with Alicia on drums and slide guitar, and Glen on bass and electric guitar. The signature Diamondwolf sound is the interplay between two acoustic guitars: Glen plays a regular 6- string acoustic, and Alicia's has Nashville strings, which fills out their sound and creates unique chord voicings. Their record was recorded in an open room on Vashon Island, inside a “forest of microphones” that captured crystal-clear live takes of their voices and guitars. Overdubs were added afterward, including Alicia on drums and Glen on bass, with co-producer Jason Staczek adding piano and Hammond B3 organ. Additional tracks were recorded and co-produced with Moe Provencher, and with Justin Froese in the cavernous Fremont Abbey.

In 2014 Diamondwolf also recorded a brand-new EP of covers, including songs by Queens of the Stone Age, Neil Young, Goldfrapp and Tom Waits, to give to fans that contribute to the band's upcoming Kickstarter campaign.
