A diaphonous veil hanging over open prairie, a distant flicker of light against dark skies, a sudden halt of the breeze — Virga’s music looms in negative space, swelling and receding like the gales of a Midwestern storm.  Virga is comprised of Faith Maddox on guitar/vocals, Isaac Castro on bass, and Billy Orr on drums. They’ve toured frequently since 2024, playing with artists such as Spellling, Nilüfer Yanya, They Are Gutting a Body of Water, Squirrel Flower, and Sweeping Promises. Their sophomore record, Eremocene, was released in May of 2025 on Learning Curve Records, with the EP, The Perfect Freedom of Single Necessity, following in January of 2026. Virga employs a patient and direct approach to raw sound – every moment feels intimate, even as distortion engulfs and cymbals crash. Drawing on elements of americana and post-punk, the sonic atmosphere of their live performance is all-consuming. Their music invokes a distinct and palpable relationship with nature and isolation, creating an ambience reminiscent of a long forgotten town overtaken by undergrowth and heavy fog. Tension accumulates, ever present, until it explodes and fades, but never fully resolves.
