A group of local musicians and prominent community members will come together for “The Roast of Derrick Freeman” on April 18th at Tipitina’s. The roast will be followed by a All Star Jam with proceeds going to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).
Blake Haney, owner of Dirty Coast, will serve as the roast master. Other roasters will include Sunpie Barnes, Nigel Hall, Arsene DeLay, Debbie & Johnny Vidacovich, members of the Soul Brass Band, Robin Barnes, Eric "Benny" Bloom, and the Who Dat’s from section 645.
Artists scheduled to perform; Stanton Moore, Ben Ellman, The Soul Brass Band, Nigel Hall, Sunpie Barnes, Arsene DeLay, Robin Barnes, Pat Casey, Jamie Bernstein, and Joe Gelini.
A limited number of VIP tables will be available for $500/each, which include 4 reserved seats, complimentary bites and beverages, exclusive bar access during the roast, and an access to the All Star Jam. Individual tickets, priced at $50 include both the roast and the All Star Jam, as well as VIP bites and beverages. Tickets to just the All Star Jam are $15. All proceeds benefit LLS, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the roast beginning at 7:00 p.m. and the All Star Jam beginning at 9:30 p.m.
Derrick Freeman is a 2019 candidate in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Man of the Year Campaign. Candidates will spend 10 weeks between April 4th and June 13th raising money (funds) and awareness for and about blood cancers. The male and female candidates who raise the most money will win the local title and go on to compete for national honors. This will be the third year for the campaign, raising over $1.6M in 2017 and 2018.
