Celebrating the Godfather of Soul: James Brown
Josh Kaye & Friends featuring Gyn
Josh Kaye and friends pay tribute to the Godfather of Soul, the Godfather of Funk, Mr. Dynamite, the Hardest Working Man in Show Business - James Brown. A progenitor of funk music and a major figure of 20th-century popular music and dance in a career that lasted 50 years, he influenced the development of several music genres.
Josh Kaye moved to Hawaii in 2008 after being part of the San Francisco jazz scene for twelve years. His 2004 debut recording entitled “The Joshua Kaye Quartet - Live!” included sidemen from the Cal Tjader band and was described as “kinetic Latin swing” (allaboutjazz.com). Since moving to Hawaii, he has been recording and performing locally with his trio as well as his R&B/jazz group Adagio which has performed at Blue Note several times. In 2009, Josh produced a CD of original music by local songwriter Laura May Azpiazu called "Midnight Smooth" which featured Ginai on most of the tracks. In 2015, Josh released a CD of his own original music performed on solo piano called “Introspection”.
Currently, Josh is finishing an album of jazz standards that bring together many of Honolulu’s finest musicians as well as including notable mainland players such as New York trumpet player Eddie Henderson.
