Join KCRW, ISC Hi-Fi, and Blue Note Los Angeles for a special evening celebrating one of the most visionary and influential recordings in the history of spiritual jazz, Alice Coltrane's landmark 1971 album Journey in Satchidananda.
The evening features a live performance by Phi Psonics, whose immersive and deeply spiritual approach to contemporary jazz draws inspiration from the meditative traditions and expansive musical language Alice Coltrane helped define.
The program also includes a listening session and conversation with acclaimed music journalist Andy Beta, author of Cosmic Music: The Life, Art, and Transcendence of Alice Coltrane. Through music, stories, and discussion, the event will explore the creation, legacy, and enduring influence of Journey in Satchidananda and Alice Coltrane's profound impact on generations of artists and listeners.
Presented in partnership with KCRW and ISC Hi-Fi, this unique event offers an intimate opportunity to experience one of jazz's most transcendent works through live performance, conversation, and communal listening with Vinyl Sounds by Alejandro Cohen, KCRW Music Director.

Meditation
Phi-Psonics is a meditative, immersive instrumental group from Los Angeles, led by bassist/composer Seth Ford-Young. Their deeply soulful music draws on jazz and classical influences, woven together with Ford-Young's own diverse musical experiences creating something that is unmistakably its own. The project's name reflects it’s central aim: to find 'Phi' — the golden mean — in art, nature, and self.
