Catherine Russell hails from a rich musical heritage. Her father, Luis Russell, was a renowned Panamanian-born pianist and bandleader who served as Louis Armstrong's long-time musical director. Her mother, Carline Ray, was a pioneering vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who performed with the International Sweethearts of Rhythm and held degrees from both Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music. Immersed in this vibrant musical environment, Russell developed a profound appreciation for jazz and blues from an early age.  Before launching her solo career in 2006, Russell amassed extensive experience as a backing vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. She toured and recorded with a diverse array of artists, including David Bowie, Steely Dan, Paul Simon, Cyndi Lauper, Jackson Browne, and Rosanne Cash. Her collaborations spanned over 200 albums, showcasing her versatility across genres. Since stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist, Russell has released several acclaimed albums, earning multiple Grammy nominations and solidifying her reputation as a premier interpreter of vintage jazz and blues.  Tonight, Russell plays tribute to the late, great Danny Barker alongside his tribute band.
