----
Prolific album Producer, expansive Percussionist, experimental Composer, connector, communicator, (based in Topanga Canyon, Los Angeles County, California,) Carlos Niño is known primarily for his main project Carlos Niño & Friends, and for his extensive work on André 3000 New Blue Sun (2023).
Most recently Niño finished his latest & Friends album Bubble Bath for Giants which was released independently on Friday, March 20, 2026 with a Vinyl Pressing by Good Neighbor and digitally exclusive on Niño’s personal Bandcamp page. This new album was made prior to his Fall 2025 Tour with Saul Williams in support of their (Grammy Nominated) album: Saul Williams meets Carlos Niño & Friends at TreePeople.
Previously Niño made albums as/with Ammoncontact, Build An Ark, The Life Force Trio, and others. Niño describes his "& Friends" sound as "Spiritual, Spontaneous, Space Collage.”He qualifies: "Why Spiritual? Because there is always a spiritual intention and center, feeling and vibrational message in these records. Why Spontaneous? Because I approach the making of this music without any preconceived structures, I just open up to what I am hearing and feeling and express / experiment until I get the pieces where I want them. The preparation and information in the Sonic Expression is our whole lives. It's an open state of communication. Why Space Collage? Because it's all about relationship and perspective, interval, layering, moving, listening, and massaging the mixes…"
Niño sites IASOS, Laraaji, Luis Pérez Ixoneztli, Adam Rudolph, Idris Ackamoor, Pharoah Sanders, Don Cherry, Yusef Lateef, Alice Coltrane, Airto, Kamau Daaood, Dwight Trible, Dexter Story, Jesse Peterson, Saul Williams, Jamire Williams, Deantoni Parks, Surya Botofasina, Nate Mercereau, André 3000, and Marshall Allen of the Sun Ra Arkestra, as among his “closest Mentors, Influences, Elders, and peers, all of whom I know well, I have known, (or at least have met several times,) in this life . . ." In addition, Naná Vasconcelos, Milford Graves (who he only met briefly, twice,) and Q-Tip (who he’s met many times, but is not close with,) are among his greatest inspirations.
