Jimmy Greene’s rise to respected prominence began in 1999 when he was named one of DownBeat Magazine’s “25 Young Rising Stars in Jazz .” The saxophonist’s mentors included Jackie McLean, Jim McNeely, and David Liebman; he’s recorded and/or performed with such artists as Horace Silver, Freddie Hubbard, Harry Connick, Jr., and Kenny Barron, just to name a few. In 2014, Greene’s eighth studio album Beautiful Life (Mack Avenue Records) became his breakthrough onto the Billboard charts, where it placed on the Christian, Gospel, Jazz, and Heatseekers album listings. Beautiful Life earned the artist a GRAMMY Award nomination for Best Jazz Instrumental Album; in addition, Greene and vocalist Javier Colon were nominated for Best Arrangement, Instrumental and Vocals for the track “When I Come Home.” For this special Jazz Standard engagement, heralding a new Mack Avenue CD release While Looking Up, Jimmy Greene will lead an all–star quintet featuring such noted bandleader/recording artists as pianist Gerald Clayton and guitarist Mike Moreno.
