Claudia Acuña’s 2019 CD Turning Pages – the artist’s first new release in a decade – was an exquisite reintroduction to a singer who has thrived at the cusp of jazz and Latin American music. The expansive nine–track set captured an artist in the process of reinventing herself, with a program of strikingly melodic original songs expressing her singular vision. With more original compositions than any of her previous releases, Turning Pages was compelling evidence that while keeping a lower public profile, Claudia Acuña had been exploring new emotional depths: “In the past I’d include one or two original songs on a record.
