Description
Twenty years after the release of their critically acclaimed debut album, Blind Man Walking, Cadillac Sky is back.  From the beginning, Cadillac Sky was built on a unique combination: Bryan Simpson’s songs and singular voice, the virtuosic playing of banjoist Matt Menefee and fiddler Ross Holmes and Mike Jump’s soaring, unmistakable tenor. Together, they made music rooted deeply in bluegrass tradition but driven by a restless instinct to push it somewhere new. Blind Man Walking introduced a band capable of honoring the music that raised them while happily kicking holes in the walls around it.  Formed in Texas, Cadillac Sky quickly earned a reputation as both fearless musicians and a ferocious live band. They could move from a whisper to a roar, from traditional bluegrass to something altogether harder to name—and they never seemed particularly interested in staying between the lines.  That approach caught the attention of some of the most respected names in American roots music. Ricky Skaggs became an early champion of the band, and Cadillac Sky went on to record and tour relentlessly, carrying their increasingly adventurous version of acoustic music well beyond the traditional bluegrass world.  As the band evolved, bassist Andy “Panda” Moritz joined the fold, becoming an important part of Cadillac Sky’s next chapter and helping fuel the increasingly adventurous sound and live show that followed.  Their evolution eventually led them into the studio with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, whose production helped capture an even rawer and more expansive side of the band. Cadillac Sky would also tour alongside Mumford & Sons, finding themselves at an unlikely intersection between bluegrass, Americana, indie rock, and a new generation of acoustic music they had helped anticipate.  Then, at the height of that momentum, Cadillac Sky stepped away.  The music never did.  Now, twenty years after Blind Man Walking first changed the course of their lives, Cadillac Sky has reunited to celebrate the album that started it all. This is more than a look back—it is a rare chance to hear these songs brought back to life with the same fire, precision, and fearless spirit that defined the band from the beginning.  The 20th anniversary reunion will revisit Blind Man Walking and the music that followed— not simply to remember what Cadillac Sky was, but to find out what happens when they play these songs again after twenty years of seasoning under their belt.  Twenty years later, the songs are still here.  So is the fire.
