Bruno was best known as a bouncer, bartender and booker of the "new band" nights at the legendary Satyricon nightclub from the mid-eighties well into the nineties. He also promoted a series of "Rock 'n Shop" events at larger venues (Pine St Theater). These combined eclectic line-ups of local indie rock with local artisans selling their goods. Many Portland musicians credit Bruno with giving them their first show. He was a gregarious and larger-than-life personality. Sometimes polarizing or gruff, he could also be quite charming and was certainly well-known throughout the city. He was one of the infamous "Satyricon Seven", those who were arrested and charged in the legendary "Satyricon Riot" of April 1990.
To commemorate Bruno, share stories, and enjoy musical memories, and otherwise bring together the remaining community that created the existing Portland music scene, a memorial Rock 'n Shop has been planned at Dante's on Friday Feb 21, 2020.
Here is the line-up for this not-to-be-missed event:
Toody Cole w/ The Spurs doing Dead Moon songs
Chris Newman and friends doing Snowbud songs
The Mistons (w/ Sean Croghan of Pynnacles/Crackerbash)
Monica Nelson and The Jack London Trio doing Obituaries songs
Steve Wilkinson and Paul Brainard
Plus stories, memories and reminiscences by friends
Doors will open at 8pm, with entertainment starting at 8:30. Cover charge is by donation, starting at an 80's throwback rate of $5, but those who can are encouraged to contribute more to help the family with expenses.
