Description
Canadian–born and New York–based, the singer, trumpeter and composer Bria Skonberg has been described by The Wall Street Journal as one of the “most versatile and imposing musicians of her generation.” Her 2016 album Bria (Sony Masterworks/OKeh Records) won a Canadian JUNO award and made the Top Five on the Billboard Jazz charts. She collaborated again with producer Matt Pierson, as well as multi–GRAMMY Award winner Gil Goldstein, for her second Sony/OKeh album, With A Twist, released May 2017. In the spring of 2019, Skonberg joined the Monterey Jazz Festival On Tour for a series of 26 concerts in sixteen states and Canada, sharing the stage with such next–generation jazz peers as singer Cécile McLorin Salvant, saxophonist Melissa Aldana, and pianist Christian Sands. This Jazz Standard engagement celebrates a much–anticipated new album, Nothing Never Happens, by this multi–talented musician. “Ms. Skonberg has become the shining hope of hot jazz, on the strength of a clarion trumpet style indebted to Louis Armstrong, a smooth purr of a singing voice inspired by Anita O’Day and the wholesome glow of youth.” (Nate Chinen, NY Times) Bria Skonberg – trumpet, vocals Patrick Bartley – saxophone  Ben Paterson – keys Doug Wamble – guitar Devin Starks –  bass  Darrian Douglas – drums
