Description
Blu & Exile
The underground Los Angeles-based duo of MC Blu (b. Johnson Barnes) and DJ/producer Exile (b. Aleksander Manfredi) earned widespread acclaim right out of the gate with their debut album, Below the Heavens (2007), which critics crowned as the seemingly perfect marriage of Blu's everyday-struggle raps and Exile's Pete Rock- and J Dilla-inspired production.
Blu, struggling to make ends meet at the time, first crossed paths with Exile in the early to mid-2000s, while the rapper earned gigs as a hype man for various soul/hip-hop outfits like Slum Village, Platinum Pied Pipers, and Exile's own duo, Emanon. In fact, Blu knew the other half of Emanon, MC/singer Aloe Blacc, who then introduced the two to each other. Deciding to sign to L.A. independent label Sound in Color, Exile's label home, in 2004, Blu began cutting a few records with the DJ/producer and assisted him with his solo LP, Dirty Science (2006).
Blu was still trying to break into the industry, but Exile was enjoying production credits for the likes of Jurassic 5, Kardinal Offishall, and Mobb Deep. The release of the soul-entrenched collaborative effort, Below the Heavens in August 2007, put them both in the limelight and had fans of the alternative rap scene buzzing; however, it specifically garnered Blu many "Artist to Watch" features in various magazine and online publications throughout the year and into 2008. During subsequent years, they worked apart more than together; nevertheless, 2012 brought another co-billed LP, Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them.

FKA Co$$, Troy Johnson was born on the South Westside of Los Angeles in a small community east of Crenshaw called Leimert Park. Leimert Park is widely known as one of the United States' top spots for jazz and also home to many of LA's finest hip-hop artists. Inspired by his surroundings, Troy started rapping at the age of 14.
Less than a year after Troy began emceeing, his father died. Experiencing the loss of his father at such a young age became the most pivotal event in his life. While Troy still had a religious foundation academically, he began hanging out in the streets, making affiliations with both gangs and gang members, which ultimately resulted in him developing a balanced perspective on life. This is the very reason why CashUs King is both conscious and street, bad and good as well as the yin and yang. His movement is truly universal and he passionately emcees for the thugs, nerds and scholars and well as elementary school dropouts.
CashUs King wants to show that the West Coast has a lot to offer as far as diversity goes and as far as innovation is concerned… it's definitely not all about khakis and Taylors, although he proudly represents that aspect. Most importantly, Co$$'s goal is to humanize the common day MC and to remind people that rappers are just regular people with regular problems. For every record he releases, he wants people to evolve with him and share in the experience of existence. Co$$ is CashUs King and CashUs King is evolution.

Jack Kerouac wrote that “the road is life.” Pistol McFly possesses the same ever-questing spirit of the famed Beat Generation writer and the world’s most impactful artists. Instead of cross country road trips, however, the Los Angeles rapper has spent the better part of his life navigating the vibrant but often violent streets of South Central. While many of his childhood friends are dead or in prison, McFly has luckily evaded bullets and central booking. His insightful rhymes are his road to discovering how to rectify personal and societal tragedies. The arresting songs on albums like Bong Rips & B . A . R . S and Google Me have made McFly a favorite headliner at renowned Leimert Park monthly Bananas. He’s also taken his captivating live show outside of LA, touring extensively with Blu & Exile, the duo behind the critically-acclaimed Below the Heavens .
Pistol McFly’s latest album, Road Trip , is the most powerful document of his stoned, sometimes psychedelic wanderings through South Central and beyond. Released on Exile’s Dirty Science and produced entirely by Power (Rich the Kid, Vic Mensa, Chris Brown), the album features bubbling LA rapper Waju, as well as soulful songstress QUIÑ. Still, the trip belongs to McFly. A self-proclaimed black hippy, he’s as comfortable with acid dropping hipsters as he is hardened gang members. As he moves between the hills and the hood, he chronicles the highs and lows of a rapper on the verge of success with the same lyrical intensity and emotional depth as albums like Illmatic . His Road Trip will inspire generations of rap fans in search of their road.
