    Folk Rock

Native to the Wichita, KS plains and raised in Boulder, CO, Kara's midwestern roots pour through her sultry voice and songwriting with an eclectic blend of pop, soul and rock 'n roll. For the last few years, she's been traveling around the country, establishing herself in different markets, including Charleston, Seattle, San Francisco, and Denver. In 2010, she opened for the late B.B. King at Red Rocks, alongside Al Green and Buddy Guy, with Denver-based classic rock band, the Groovehawgs. In promotion of her debut EP, Better By Morning, she most recently opened for Steve Miller Band with her own 4-piece, Seattle-based band during the Road Home Tour. This summer she is again uprooting, bound for the northeast coast.

    Music

Seattle based singer/songwriter Tekla Waterfield lives in the wide-open realm of Americana Roots music, incorporating elements of folk, country, indie, rhythm and blues, and soul.

Waterfield has paired up with multi-instrumentalist, Jeff Fielder to produce her second LP, The Curtain Falls.  This album represents a departure from Waterfield's usual rootsy/folk, to a place that is firmly grounded in ethereal Indie Folk.  Finger picking guitars and soaring strings give full-bodied dichotomy to playful vintage drum machines and synths.  There's a push/pull from new to old, folk to pop/rock that ties traditional singer/songwriter modes to modern Jim James electronic experimentation.  Vocals are up-front and honest, with moments of eery Stranger Things/Twin-Peaks-esque moody, somber, lush synths and dynamics that rise and swell.

Her song structure influences come from many wonderful song composers including: The Velvet Underground, Gillian Welch, War on Drugs, The Cowboy Junkies, Wilco, Courtney Barnett, Frazey Ford, Bill Withers and more.

In addition to live performances with her band, Tekla lends her vocals to others for recordings and occasional live appearances, is an active member of Seattle's Bushwick Book Club, a group of artists who create work in response to literature, performs regularly at SeaTac Airport as part of the Experience the City of Music Project, and is a frequent featured vocalist with the highly revered Seattle Rock Orchestra.
