MOTHERBOARD is the evolving artistic persona of Kyle Kidd (all pronouns), marking a new phase in their sonic practice. Building on earlier work, it shifts from voice as focal point to voice as environment—immersive, rhythmic, and expansive.
Rooted in the belief that sound shapes emotion and atmosphere, MOTHERBOARD blends gospel, jazz, soul, and blues with electronic, ambient, post-punk, and club music. Drawing from Black sonic lineage, the project explores voice, repetition, and texture as tools for movement, intimacy, and release.
Following the debut album Soothsayer (2022), known for its layered vocal work and emotional depth, MOTHERBOARD expands into a more rhythm-forward, embodied space—music built for both reflection and physical response.
Live, MOTHERBOARD integrates sound, movement, and visual language into immersive performance. Kidd has appeared at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, NPR Tiny Desk, Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, SXSW, Le Guess Who, and Big Ears Festival, and has collaborated with artists including Moor Mother, Irreversible Entanglements, Algiers, San Cha, Badger, Dombrance, Joy Anonymous, and talltom.
MOTHERBOARD signals a continuation—refined, expanded, and in motion.
