New Wave
Big Country
Big Country
New Wave
Big Country was originally formed in 1981 by guitar playing founder members Stuart Adamson and Bruce Watson both native of the band’s hometown Dunfermline in Scotland. Initially driven by a shared vision of widescreen guitar melody, harmony and lyric, the classic Big Country sound was further enhanced later that summer by the arrival of drummer Mark Brzezicki and bass player Tony Butler. This is the Big Country that (with producer Steve Lillywhite), recorded the classic debut album ‘The Crossing’ in 1983.
The band broke massively worldwide with the release of the album’s classic singles ‘Fields Of Fire’, ‘Chance’ and signature song ‘In A Big Country’, which went on to become massive worldwide hits, selling over 2 million copies and driving ‘The Crossing’ to 3 prestigious Grammy nominations in the USA.
The run of success continued throughout the 1980′s with the release of the anthemic single ‘Wonderland’ and the second album ‘Steeltown’ (1984), which debuted at Number 1 in the UK and contained the hit singles ‘East Of Eden, ‘Just a Shadow’ and ‘Where The Rose Is Sown’ . In 1985, Big Country appeared at Live Aid in London followed by further successful album releases ‘The Seer’ (1986, which included the bands biggest UK hit ‘Look Away’, which also reached Number 1 in the Irish Singles chart) and ‘Peace In Our Time’ (1988), which saw the band playing the first ever privately promoted gig in Russia at the Moscow Sports Stadium. Further studio albums Buffalo Skinners (1993) and ‘Why The Long Face (1995) followed, which saw Big Country landing the special guest slot on the Rolling Stones ‘Voodoo Lounge’ European tour and several shows in the UK and Ireland with Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and Robert Plant in 1995.
In August 1998 they were once again invited to open for the Rolling Stones on their ‘Bridges To Babylon” tour of Europe prompting Mick Jagger to say that Big Country were “one of the best opening bands we ever had”.Two songs written at that time (‘Somebody Else’ and ‘Devil In The Eye’) were co-written with Ray Davies of The Kinks who invited the band to back him on the main stage at Glastonbury to perform a storming set in the rain.
Big Country, scored 17 top 30 UK singles achieving 5 gold and platinum status albums along the way. As Big Country has ventured through the 2020s, they celebrate the 40th Anniversary of ‘The Crossing’ throughout 2023 and will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of ‘Steeltown’ throughout 2024. They continue to entertain fans around the world the way only Big Country music can.

Tommy Tutone
Tommy Tutone
Pop Rock
Tommy Tutone is a New Wave band, best known for its 1982 hit "867-5309/Jenny", which peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Although it is usually referred to as a San Francisco band, it was actually based in Willits, California, at the time that "Jenny" was released. The song became so popular that people in the United States to this day dial this telephone number and ask for Jenny as a prank. Regarding the famous number, "We had people threatening to sue us. It was the Buffalo Chief of Police's daughter's number in New York," said frontman Tommy Heath. Although the band is frequently remembered as a one-hit wonder, it had another top-40 hit on the Hot 100 with "Angel Say No" in 1980, predating "Jenny" by a couple of years.
A common misconception is that Tommy Tutone is the name of the lead singer; it is actually the name of the band. Tommy Heath is the lead singer. The name of the band developed from its original name, Tommy and the Tu-tones, to merely Tommy Tutone.

Alternative Rock
Bow Wow Wow are a very funky, dynamic, and innovative early 80s New Wave rock band from London, England. The group was formed by former Sex Pistols' manager Malcolm McLaren in 1980. The original band members were Annabella Lwin (vocals), Matthew Ashman (guitar), Leigh Gorman (bass) and David Barbarossa (drums). Bow Wow Wow were renowned in their 80s heyday for their wild Mohawk haircuts, Lwin's extremely fierce, yet still sexy singing, and their highly distinctive savage Latin/African tribal rhythms.
The band scored a Top 10 UK radio hit in February, 1982 with the stirring "Go Wild in the Country". The group had their biggest international smash with their ferociously catchy and trashy rendition of "I Want Candy" in May, 1982 (this particular song was originally done by the The Strangeloves in 1965). "I Want Candy" peaked at #7 on the UK pop charts. Although "I Want Candy" didn't do well on the US Billboard pop radio charts, it has nonetheless become a much beloved and popular 80s New Wave rock favorite in the United States because the music video for the song was heavily played on MTV. ("I Want Candy" has been featured on the soundtracks for such movies as Bio-Dome (1996), Blank Check (1994), High Fidelity (2000) and Marie Antoinette (2006)). The band appear as themselves performing the songs "Where's My Snake" and "What's the Time (Hey Buddy)" in the comedy picture Scandalous (2007).
Lead singer Annabella Lwin was only 14 when she joined the group in 1980. Boy George of Culture Club fame was briefly a member of the band under the name "Lieutenant Lush". He was asked to leave the group after he was booed off the stage at a 1981 gig at the Rainbow Theatre.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers have often cited Bow Wow Wow as a major musical influence on their own sound. Moreover, Bow Wow Wow are mentioned in the lyrics of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' songs "Suck My Kiss" and "Right on Time".
