Featuring a largely unknown cast from the director’s E. Elias Merhige’s theater company, Theaterofmaterial, Begotten was popularized by popular essayist Susan Sontag’s critique.  Merhige went on to make music videos for Marilyn Manson, Danzig, and Interpol.
