Beane is an American singer-songwriter who was born and raised in central Pennsylvania. As a baby bean, he was always enamored by the possibilities of a life beyond the valley where his roots were planted. It was in his late teens that he sprouted into Boston and spent six years crafting, destroying, and rebuilding the BEANE project. Today, he splits his time between New York City and Los Angeles.
Beane’s passion for storytelling and songwriting was fertilized by a strong desire to defy his odds. Beane is deaf out of his right ear, he's a type 1 diabetic, and he was raised in a deeply conservative town as a closeted (but quite obvious) member of the LGBTQ+ community. The aim of his project is to sow seeds of optimism and sincerity into the world through his craft.
Beane's music often starts with the question, "How do I want my audience to feel?" and then blossoms into a groove that translates that emotion. His journey to fully espouse his artistry began when he embraced being a part of the LGBTQ+ community; his exploration of queer history has instigated a dire need to be a representative for people like him. In many ways, Beane is the queer superhero that he himself needed as a young sprout.
The Beane project is rooted in self-reflection and the journey of unfurling the queer experience, exploring themes such as love, heartbreak, relationships, familial tension, and religious persecution. He writes songs for those who are often left out of mainstream narratives, but with an approachability that anybody can relate to. He employs a unique mix of singer-songwriter and folk-infused top-lining with pop/r&b production. Heavily influenced by feeling, he pursues emotion rather than adhering to the confines of a single genre or style.
In 2021, Beane competed in season 19 of American Idol, where he made it to the top 10. He has also performed and/or collaborated with Justin Timberlake, Tank (from Tank and the Bangas), Josh Groban, Lizzy McAlpine, Tiny Habits, PAMÉ, Corook, Gaby Moreno, and Alisa Amador. Despite his success, Beane remains committed to creating music that speaks to his own experiences and the experiences of others like him.
No longer content with being a side dish, Beane is poised to break through as the star ingredient at an increasingly populated table. Go on, take a bite.
