The Risky Biscuits - Murphys, CA

    10:15pm - 11pm

    https://www.theriskybiscuits.com/

From the Sierra Nevada foothills, The Risky Biscuits bring an original mix of heel-kicking stompers and humble ballads, creating an eclectic mix of Americana, bluegrass, rock, soul, and country. With members originating from Boston, New Jersey, Tennessee, and California, the Biscuits provide the kind of sound that only develops when backgrounds and styles collide.

That sound is rooted heavily in the meeting of instruments that cross paths, but rarely converge. The Risky Biscuits combine Nate Semprebon on lead vocals and keyboard, Travis Schlafmann on banjo, Kiel Williams on electric guitar, Austin Broder on violin, Andy Merrill on electric bass, and Sky Harris on drums. This blending of the amplified, and the acoustic is half of what makes this band stand out so much. The other half of course, is the music itself.  The band aims to cross genres in a way that is progressive, yet fundamentally simple. That being said, you never quite know what you'll get when you see a show. Things can go from psychedelic, to folksy and back in the time it takes to grab a beer. Wouldn't be too "risky" of a band if switching it up wasn't a big part of the formula.

     Van Goat - Oakland, CA

    9:15pm - 10pm

    http://www.vangoatband.com/

Punk. Swing. Ragtime. Southern jazz. Surf. Van Goat is a band to which you could apply many labels, but none would quite prepare you for what you’re about to hear as you pop on your headphones and queue up their album.

Harnessing the diverse DIY aesthetic of their native Oakland, Van Goat (featuring Aidan Ward, Ben Einstein, Derek Burle, Lindsay Alexis, and Taylor Moxon) is in the business of writing not only songs that you can dance to, but entire albums that you can enjoy front to back without pausing or skipping: a musical experience wherein each successive song’s mottled riffs and bewildering charisma is pleasantly startling.

Follow Me Under, the five-piece’s debut full-length LP, pits thick bass lines against rhythmic trombone; pointed lyrics against verdant harmonies: bursts of liveliness in the first half against bursts of contemplation in the second. Side A, so to speak, is the dancing side, and Side B is the meditative side, but the entire LP creates a shindig all its own, plucking together influences both local and global and mashing them together in a cohesive and sophisticated exertion.

“You know when you’re in the shower and you want to turn the water as hot as you possibly can, and when it starts to burn you, you lower it a little bit? That’s what I want people to feel with this record,” says bassist Derek Burle.

Serf and James - Napa, CA

    8:15 - 9pm

    http://www.serfandjames.com

Serf and James’ Single Release for their original song “Stay in my Head”  coincides with “Bands in the Bay” music series at Blue Note Napa on January 5th, 2019.

"Most unusual...great ideas...lots of promise," --Ray Manzarek, The Doors. "With a voice that soars and contracts over such well-written songs...." --Gabe Meline, Bohemian. Serf and James are an Alt Rock, Blue Pop, Semi-Soul band hailing from Napa, CA. Known for their spontaneous songs, and the passion and prowess of their live show.

     BASI VIBE - Sacramento, CA

    7:15 - 8pm

    https://www.basivibe.com/

BASI VIBE is an independent Neo-Soul / R&B artist that draws most of his inspiration from his culture-rich hometown, Sacramento.

DJ Scotty Fox - San Francisco, CA

    Playing in between sets https://www.mixcloud.com/scotty-fox/

Scotty Fox's career is punctuated by creativity and rebellion – destroying conventions with his diabolical mixes. 20+ years of tearing down the walls of mediocrity in his radio mixes. His remixes featured on the Top Secret compilation series became the industry standard. He has opened for thousands at various concert venues and clubs, always rising above the herd with his exceptional skills. But despite his meteoric success, Fox remains grounded about his achievements and clearly loves mixing and playing music above the accolades it brings.
