Olive Vox” is the Dallas-based alt rock project of Parker James, Caden Shea, and Ben Reid. Olive Vox pulls inspiration from across the alternative rock world, from the fist-pumping pop rock of bands like Nirvana and Cage the Elephant, to the punk rock energy of Turnstile. The trio started releasing music in 2021 and have since grown a large following on social media and have shared stages with notable acts like Ty Segall, Violent Vira, and Puddle of Mudd.

Today we’d like to introduce you to AnDy Darling. Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started? I was born in Rostov-on-Don — a Russian city only Russian speakers would probably recognize. I wrote my first song when I was 11, just trying to make sense of everything I felt. I posted it online without thinking much… and it went viral. That moment changed everything. Since then, I’ve lived a hundred lives. At 17, I moved to the Czech Republic to study media, ended up playing in rock bands, and somehow landed on The Voice. A couple of years later, I got curious about K-pop and spent some time in Seoul. Eventually, I came back to Moscow, inspired by everything I’d experienced and all the songs I’d written along the way. I did another TV show, wrote a radio hit, started working with Warner Music Russia, and performed for thousands. From the outside, it probably looked like I was thriving. But inside, I felt like I was brushing up against the ceiling — and that’s not a good feeling for someone as ambitious as me. I realized I could spend the next few years climbing the ladder and maybe make it to the A-list… in Russia. But that just wasn’t enough for me. So I left. Everything. I moved to the U.S. alone — first Nashville, then L.A., and now New York. I started from zero. Again. For the first three years, I focused on writing songs for other artists — completely independently, no label, no publishing deal. Once I was stable financially, I returned to the dream I’d put on hold: becoming an artist myself. That part? Was brutal. Going from major success in Russia to being a complete nobody in America took a toll. But I kept going — releasing songs monthly, writing for myself again, and locking in on building my presence from scratch. Recently, two of my songs were featured in Anora, the Oscar-winning film. I also wrote and released an original track for Teamfight Tactics (TFT), a game by Riot Games — the powerhouse behind League of Legends and the Netflix series Arcane. And the wildest part? I’m still doing this completely independently. I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far? From learning English and Czech just to be able to understand and communicate — to eventually mastering English enough to compete with American songwriters… it’s been a journey. Leaving my country and my family at 17 didn’t seem like a big deal at the time. But over the years, it got harder. Immigration is no joke — and I’ve done it more than once. When I look back now, I honestly think, “Damn, she had energy, ambition… and apparently zero fear.” Which is wild, because I’ve had panic attacks throughout my life and still do, regularly. I truly don’t know how someone can be so bold while also feeling terrified most of the time — but here we are. Lol. And of course, the goal I’ve had from the beginning — becoming a global pop star — is like a mission impossible, so my life is pretty much an experiment to see if a Russian girl can actually become a global Popstar.
