Anarchist Punk
Dead Pioneers are a Denver-based punk band led by multidisciplinary artist and vocalist Gregg Deal. Rooted in Deal’s work around Indigenous identity, resistance, history, and contemporary political life, the band pairs his sharp spoken-word delivery with urgent, increasingly expansive punk. Since their 2023 debut, Dead Pioneers have built a reputation for confrontational, darkly funny, politically charged music, with the band increasingly willing to stretch beyond straightforward hardcore and punk forms. Completed by guitarists Josh Rivera and Abe Brennan, bassist Lee Tesche of Algiers, and drummer Shane Zweygardt, Dead Pioneers have released three albums through Hassle Records, toured extensively in the U.S. and Europe, performed on KEXP, and shared stages with Pearl Jam, Propagandhi, and Pennywise. Their latest album, Wagon Burner, is their most dynamic and confrontational record yet. -
