Jeff Frost’s mesmerizing art film “California on Fire” captures the surreal horror of California’s wildfires in a way that no one else has. Art Responds: The Wine Country Fires is a Napa-based contemporary art exhibition and event series curated by Rina Faletti, PhD. to commemorate the 1-year anniversary of the Northern California firestorm and to further the conversation about fire, climate, and environment.

“California On Fire,” Art Film by Jeff Frost, 2018 World Premier (25-min)
“Wilder Than Wild: Fire, Forests and the Future,” by Kevin White and Stephen Most, 2018 (60-min)
Art Responds: The Wine Country Fires is a Napa-based contemporary art exhibition and event series curated by Rina Faletti, PhD. To commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Northern California firestorm and to further the conversation about fire, climate, and environment, Faletti has brought together a group of artists whose lives and work were directly influenced by the fires.
This film screening will include the world premiere of the visually mesmerizing art film “California on Fire” (25 min) by artist Jeff Frost who is known as a master of the time-lapse technique. Using specialized motion-control equipment, he captures the surreal horror of California’s wildfires in a way that no one else has. Frost was recently featured on the Netflix series “Fire Chasers” and will be present to discuss his techniques and experiences.
The second film will be the new documentary, “Wilder Than Wild: Fire, Forests and the Future” (60 min) by Stephen Most and Kevin White. The film shows how fire suppression and climate change have altered wildfire scenarios, and explores how proactive use of prescribed fire, native tribal traditions of cultural fire, and local community groups can work together to restore and manage the lands and watersheds we love and depend on. A Q & A with the filmmakers will follow the screening.
"AN ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL PRODUCTION. THE MESSAGES IN THIS FILM ARE SPOT ON."
