The Art Martyrs Relief Society aims to create a bridge between Seattle’s underfunded working artists and those who would like to support them. The annual Art Martyrs Showcase is an evening dedicated to lifting up some of Seattle’s phenomenally talented performing artists, who entertain, inspire, uplift and challenge us nightly in theaters, clubs, and concert halls across the city. Many of these same artists are making big sacrifices in their health, security, and standard of living to fill Seattle with art and culture, and traditional granting organizations only reach a small portion of those doing this work. The Art Martyrs Relief Society provides an opportunity, for those who have the means, to support, encourage, and sustain our city’s creativity by putting money directly into artists’ pockets. The showcase, on November 30that the Sunset Tavern, will be a great night of performances by this year’s awardees: Guayaba, Bret Fetzer, The Black Tones, and Cherdonna. There will also be chances for artists in attendance to win prizes donated by the community (a teeth cleaning!, spa day!, gift certificates!) as a thank you for dedicating themselves to enriching our lives through their doing, making, and creating. Admission is on a sliding scale, from artist level ($8) to supporter level ($250).
