Anja Huwe is the iconic singer of the forerunners of the post-punk movement – Xmal Deutschland.
After the band’s success with four albums on cult labels such as 4 AD records, Huwe pursued a career in visual arts, still following her passion for music via various creative platforms. She came back to the international music scene with a bang in early 2024 with the successful release of her solo album CODES, along with exclusive re-releases of early Xmal Deutschland tracks, both on Sacred Bones Records, New York. The album, written and produced together with fellow 80s artist Mona Mur, features Mur's distinctive electronic sounds as well as Manuela Rickers’ unique Xmal guitar style. Worldwide press, from The Guardian to Rolling Stone, from THE WIRE to Galore, celebrated the “comeback of the year” and the album with rave reviews and demanded the artist’s return on stage. Due to this demand, Anja Huwe decided to perform her exquisite solo album CODES live on stage along with a solid selection of Xmal Deutschland classics in modern interpretations, set into light by signature visual art. Her triumphant first concert after decades - as headliner of The Hagues's GRAUZONE Festival in February 2025 - wrote already pop history. In the following, Anja Huwe/Xmal Deutschland played major festivals and concerts in European capitals, a UK tour with the Psychedelic Furs as well as the seminal Wave Gotik Treffen 2026 for the very first time. Spring 2026 saw the LAS AMERICAS tour 2026 featuring dates in the USA, Mexico, Peru, Costa Rica and Brasil. Joining Anja on stage on this spectacular endeavour were Mona Mur (keys), Christian St. Ctaire (drums), Tom Ashton (of the March Violets - git) and Die So Fluid’s Grog (b). The same stellar line-up will be back in the US in August and September 2026.
