Description
Here’s Chris Barton in The Los Angeles Times: “Allison Miller stakes a claim to being one of the most promising drummers in the game.”  In the London Observer, Kitty Empire declares: “Young, muss–haired drummer, Allison Miller, defies physics and bends time.” And singer/songwriter Ani DiFranco hails “a refreshingly honest player. Allison plays as she is, which is great because she is such an open–hearted, humble, graceful person.” They’re all talking about the charismatic, rhythmically propulsive drummer whose forthcoming Sunnyside CD, Science Fair, is a remarkable collaboration with pianist Carmen Staaf. The two leaders wanted to insure that the compositions would be diverse yet balanced; there are four songs from each composer, though they worked together to shape the final arrangements. Similarly, Staaf and Miller wanted to have a diverse ensemble representing a cosmopolitan mix of genders and races, but, most importantly, all sharing a passion for self and group expression. They even enlisted their own “mad scientist” in the person of producer Ben Goldberg, who helped put the final pieces together. “Allison Miller’s music is infectious. Its multiple chorus structure brings with it an orientation that is unselfish. The character of her drumming is positive and sensitive to timbre.” (Lyn Horton, AllAboutJazz.com)   Allison Miller – drums Carmen Staaf – piano Dayna Stephens – tenor saxophone Ingrid Jensen– trumpet Tony Scherr – bass
