An orchestra prepares to perform a series of classical compositions, though little goes according to plan once the animation begins.  Bruno Bozzetto's feature was conceived as an affectionate response to Disney's Fantasia, pairing celebrated pieces of classical music with a distinctly Italian sense of humor.
