Alexz Johnson:
Pop/Folk, Soul, Singer-songwriter
Independent Canadian/US dual singer/songwriter, Gemini-Award winning actress, and Mom of two under three, Alexz Johnson is based both in NYC and Toronto, Canada. Portraying musicians and lending her soulful sound and passionate songwriting style to both film and TV (Disney’s So Weird, Instant Star (The N), Pretty Little Liars, Blue on HULU), Alexz has garnered a massive and loyal international fan following.
After years of being signed and held by multiple major labels, Alexz decided to claim her independence by carving her own path in the industry. Raising funds directly from her fanbase she's continued to finance her tours, albums, and music videos. This past Spring, Alexz, with her family, returned from her successful headline EU/UK tour, promoting her 5th studio album 'Seasons' (released April 7th, '23). 'Seasons', was written and recorded remotely at Alexz’s home studio during the pandemic, with the financial help from her thriving Patreon community.
Alexz continues to work independently in music, holding true to her sound and vision as an artist, advocating and inspiring other budding artists in the process. She's looking forward to touring her new album across the US, Spring of '24.
Wax Owls
Since its 2020 inception, Wax Owls has churned out nearly two dozen singles and gained support from tastemakers like American Songwriter, Paste, SPIN, Buzzbands, Atwood Magazine, Earmilk, and many others. In 2021, the band’s track “Stay Awhile” received a coveted slot in Starbucks’ in-store rotation, while “Set It Free'' landed a sync placement in the independent film What She Said, which was inspired by the #MeToo movement. The group has also made their way across the festival circuit, highlighted by Bonnaroo, Pilgrimage, and Peach Fest. Most recently, the band also landed a sync for their song “Bring the Rain” in the emotional closing scene of Grey’s Anatomy Episode 14 last season.
On the songwriting side, Gerry Hirschfeld has written and collaborated with an array of notable artists, including Kevin Griffin (Better Than Ezra), Anna Graceman, and Raye Zaragosa, while writing and producing for Riptide, Dual Tone, Secret Road, Music Mind, and Universal. Wax Owls was also a top 10 finalist in the 2021 American Songwriter Competition.
