August Hall Presents
A true icon and one of the most influential artists in Brazilian music, Alceu Valença returns to North America after a 20-year hiatus and embarks on his first major tour across seven cities. With a career spanning over 40 years, 35 albums, over 5 million in sales, and four Latin GRAMMY nominations, Alceu Valença has established himself as the voice of Northeastern Brazil. His album “Vivo” was defined by Richard Perry of Arcade Fire, as a “psychodelic masterpiece”. You can expect a high-energy show full of forró, baião, xote, frevo and embolada, and all of his popular hits like “Morena Tropicana”, “Coração Bobo”, “Anunciação”, “Taxi Lunar”, “Belle de Jour”, and more.
Dona Francisca plays regional dance music from the Northeast of Brazil, influenced by styles such as Xote, Baião and Xaxado with a stroke of Balkan and Gypsy music. Forró dancing is a major element of Dona Francisca's live performances. Surrounded by a community of dancers, Dona Francisca's shows are a great opportunity to grab a partner and learn the contagious Forró dance moves.
Cocada is a group of Singers and percussionists based on the East Bay. They play Côco de Roda, a groovy music rhythm born in Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous gatherings in Northeastern Brazil. Cocada's intention is to honor and keep this culture alive. The music is full of tongue twists inspired by organic sounds of Nature. Cocada brings sweetness to your life and invite you to a playful time. Simbora quebrar o Côco?
