Hiroyuki Okiura spent seven years making A Letter to Momo (2011), returning to traditional hand-drawn animation after his debut feature Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (1999). The film draws from Japanese folklore while keeping its supernatural yokai tied to Momo’s grief, and the unfinished letter her father left behind.
