Description
The 5th Annual Hop Harvest Smoke Out takes place this
year on September 1st from 4 pm to 9 pm at The Yard Amphitheater at Ray Brothers BBQ!
What began as a small event behind the restaurant has turned into a daylong festival with vendors, multiple stages, world- renowned musicians, hops and beer demonstrations from local farmers, and more. This year’s headlining act is Root Shock.
To celebrate the event’s fifth year, the first 50 attendees through the doors will receive a commemorative pint glass and their first beer will be on the house.
The restaurant will be closed, but RBQ will be serving items from their food truck outside. The inside bar will be open with beer, wine and spirits. The outdoor bar will be open for cans and draft beer. The Hamilton Hop Mission will be on-site doing
educational talks about their homegrown hops and attendees will have the opportunity to add fresh hops to their draft beer.
There will be a handful of craft and merch vendors on-
site as well, including artisanal jewelry by Courtney Elise Handmade and wood burned designs by Shady Grove Burns.
This event is all ages and kids 12 and under get in for free. Feel free to bring blankets and chairs and get comfortable!
This event will happen rain or shine.
The headlining act, Root Shock, is a high energy roots, soul and reggae group from Syracuse, New York. Conscious, soulful, uplifting, even healing - that’s how many fans of Root Shock have described the band’s infectious sound and energy. With a reputation like that, it’s unsurprising that this group is indebted to reggae, a class of music forever married to love, humanity, social change, and an almost tangible sense of sunlight.
This year’s supporting acts include Sophistafunk, Chris Eves and the New Normal, and The Old Main. Sophistafunk, also from Syracuse, has gained international notoriety with their unique combination of live hip hop, funk, and jam music. Chris Eves and the New Normal blurs the lines between rock, funk, and blues with a healthy dose of jam band influences. Finally, The Old Main, hailing from the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains,
has drawn favorable comparisons to bands such as The Avett Brothers, The Band, and Dawes while retaining a sound and style uniquely their own. Folk/rock, Adirondack folk, foot stomping folk, or alt-Americana: no matter what genre you’d use to describe them, you’re guaranteed to enjoy their performance. All four groups have graced the stage at The Yard Amphitheater in the past, and we are so excited to welcome them back for a
day of great food, great friends and great music.

Root Shock
Reggae
Conscious, soulful, even healing—that’s how many fans of Root Shock have described the band’s infectious sound and energy. They’ve developed a voice that transcends genre but can make anyone move their body and uplift their spirit.
Spearheaded by the powerhouse vocals of Jessica Brown, the Root Shock sound is at once commanding and cathartic, but never at the expense of a velvety, carefully placed jazz or neo-soul lick. Phil Grajko’s smooth earthy vocals complement his guitar style inspired by Latin, prog, and psychedelic rock textures—often in tandem with mad keyboard genius Brian Lauri. Rounding out the band, bassist Elliot Jarvis and drummer Tyre Outerbridge make for a formidable rhythm section fluent in patterns ranging from reggae to
funk to reggaeton and maybe even metal.
In 2016, Root Shock released a self-titled album, produced by Jason “Jocko” Randall at More Sound Studio, and followed that up with the “Many Paths” EP in 2018 & the Waves single in 2019. These recordings are proof of the band’s democratic songwriting process, with thoughtful lyrics from Brown and Grajko that invoke hope in dark times, warn against injustice, and imagine a future where everyone is free to be who they are. Always honest and thought provoking.
Today, Root Shock is bringing their renowned live show to clubs, festivals, and concert halls across the Northeast and beyond, delighting audiences from all walks of life with a positive message and danceable tunes.

Funk
SOPHISTAFUNK
SOPHISTAFUNK
Funk
2018 has already been a busy year for Sophistafunk. New music. A Cali Tour. A new vehicle. Now the band is embarking on another tour from February 16th through 25th, which includes stops in Boulder, Denver, Fort Collins, Lincoln, and Chicago.
From their home in Syracuse NY, Sophistafunk has gained international notoriety with their unique combination of live hip hop, funk, and jam music. Last week, after returning from a nearly 4-hour show with 5 encores at the Boom Boom Room in San Francisco, the guys immediately took off to Connecticut and bought a Mercedes Sprinter tour van. It was yet another new addition for drummer Emanuel Washington, who recently became a first-time father with the birth of his son Onyx this past August.
Sophistafunk will be debuting new songs from their upcoming album during the Colorado Tour, which begins Friday, February 16th in Boulder at The Lazy Dog. The next night, February 17th, the band travels to Denver to perform at Cervantes’ Other Side, followed by Fort Collins at Downtown Artery on Feb 18. After a private event with Zac Brown Band in Las Vegas, Sophistafunk returns to Nebraska and Iowa before concluding the tour at the Tonic Room in Chicago on Sunday, February 25th(full details below).
Following the success of their recent single “No More War” on the national circuit, Sophistafunk will be even busier in 2018. They will also be joined by their newest member, saxophonist Tommy Weeks of the Funky Dawgz Brass Band.

Folk
The Old Main
The Old Main
Folk
The Old Main is an indie-folk group based in New York’s Adirondack foothills. With over a decade worth of writing, traveling and live experience, The Old Main brings to life a full spectrum of tunes with topics ranging from lost love to optimism in the face of life’s all too familiar trials. Using stripped down Americana instrumentation, The Old Main brings both a big rock show energy, and introspective sincerity to every performance.
Led by SethBecker, who writes their songs, the music takes shape when the talents of Patrick Strain, Blake Propst, and Dusty Elmer shine through. The group draws inspiration from influences such as John Prine, Wilco, Neil Young, and has been compared to The Avett Brothers, Jamestown Revival, Tom Petty, and The Luminiers.
Seth and the band have shared stages all over the East Coast with Gregory Alan Isakov, Rusted Root, Delta Spirit, Enter The Haggis, Mallet Brothers, Donna The Buffalo, Christopher Paul Stelling, and Adam Ezra Group.
With catchy original music and creatively reimagined covers, they've been called everything from Folk-Rock to alt-Americana, though no label or description compares to hearing their roller coaster ride of foot stomping to atmospheric ballads in person. Acoustic guitar, harmonica, banjo, pedal steel, upright bass, drums, and ringing vocal harmonies make up The Old Main’s raw authentic sound, and their high-energy live performances are enjoyed by all. The Old Main continues to build acclaim and expand their already strong following all over the North East.
