(3 the Hardway) is a 3 piece female fronted proto punk rock band from Detroit, Michigan. They’ve released an album (‘HWUAH’ in 2024) and an ep (‘sex cymbal’ in 2025). They have been reviewed by national publications (Maxium RnR and Razor Cake). They’ve played many shows in the Detroit area in the past few years as well as 2 small tours in Canada and through the Midwest. Brooklyn is the lead singer, drummer and main songwriter. Her singing style is somewhat reminiscent of Kathleen Hanna (bikini kill) mixed with alittle extra Detroit gusto. Her drumming is fierce, punchy and primal.  Joel is lead guitarist and songwriter. In a minimalist approach toward tech and playing, he is able to create a tone all his own that brings a sharpness that cuts through each song. A guitar sound that sounds like pretty but mean. Frank holds down the bass and is the newest addition to the group. He joined in August 2025. Frank provides very rhythmic bass that compliments the songs in a cohesive manner. The trio is set to release a new 4 song ep in spring 2026 called “hotcakes”. Their music is influenced by bands like the cramps, suicide, bikini kill, babes in toyland, L7, die spitz and iggy and the stooges. They play rock music that borders on the genres of riot grrrl, garage rock, and rockabilly but in mainly embody proto punk. They are mean, loud and ready to rock.
