Description
Three rising stars in the Portland music scene share their versions of soul music, each take as different as the songwriter singing it. This night will be a powerful musical collaboration between three artists never seen together on stage. Great songwriting, outstanding vocals, and music inspired by soul, blues, roots, jazz, R&B and rock. Karyn Ann draws comparisons to 60’s troubadours like Carole King and modern singers like Brandi Carlisle, and her approach to soul has been heavily influenced by them. With a voice known to “beguile the most inattentive bar-goer”, this brooding and compassionate woman will pull you in to her world…and you will thank her for it. She tours nationally, with notable appearances at the legendary Bitter End in NYC, and the Women’s Redrock Music Festival alongside Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls. www.karynann.com Red Bird dances between soul and R&B, drawing comparisons to Bonnie Raitt, Tedeschi-Trucks Band and Rachael Price. Fronted by Bre Gregg (vocals) and Dan Gildea (guitar), their sound is led by powerful yet tender vocals with mind-bending guitar features. Bre and Dan are magic together organically sharing the lead in a way that brings both to the forefront. Jeff Langston (bass) and Charlie Doggett (drums) create driving rhythms that you will feel, truly bringing their music to life. www.redbirdsoul.com Michalangela combines elements of neo-soul, R&B, jazz and rock into an intricate and accessible sound bringing to mind singers like Erykah Badu, Little Dragon and Emily King. Michalangela has worked alongside countless numbers of the NW’s best musicians such as Farnell Newton (Jill Scott/Bootsy Collins) and Saeeda Wright (Prince), becoming a staple in the thriving Portland music scene. Her soon to be released album, “As I See It” is filled with lush harmony, tight grooves, rhythmic complexity and honest songwriting. www.michalangela.com
