Yosvany has led his five-piece project through sound expeditions across intercultural landscapes. Now in 2019, The Yosvany Terry Quintet continues to awaken and engage new interpretations of existing repertoire as well as explore new music. The band reflects an unspoken yet communicated understanding among members, each of whom values both individualism of expression as wholly as he values a collective service to the music. The Quintet features Terry on saxophones and chekeré; GRAMMY-nominated artist-composer born and based in New York, Michael Rodriguez on trumpet; internationally lauded artistcomposer from Havana, Manuel Valera on piano; first-call master of foundation and experimentation, Matt Brewer on bass; and renowned Cuban-born Yamaha artist, Ludwig Alfonso on drums.Infusing new music with direct and displaced components of Afro-Cuban harmonies and polyrhythms, European classical traditions, African blues roots and deeply ingrained bebop vocabulary, the Quintet serves to create a contemporary narrative around what’s happening in the music — simply by playing it. Bringing together these artists from mingling lineages, the Quintet answers the call from generations of ancestors by adopting and honoring their contributions and evolving their sound for the new era of artists and listeners. The power — and privilege — of preserving folkloric traditions resonates across the quintet’s recordings and live performances. Scullers Jazz Club’s Boathouse 400 restaurant rekindles the magic of the great supper clubs with our Dinner and Show Package that enlivens all of the senses. The 3 course menu features a diverse selection of appetizers, entrees, desserts and one glass of house red or white wine or non-alcoholic beverage. For a nominal fee, guests can upgrade their beverage selection. Add the dinner to your show ticket purchase for only $50.  Dinner and Show Package customers’ show tickets can be picked up at the Boathouse 400 restaurant while dining. *All Dinner and Show Package prices do not reflect applicable taxes, gratuity or additional beverages.  For your convenience an 18% server gratuity and 7.00% state & local tax will be added to your check and a $50 credit will be applied toward restaurant charges.  Packages and tickets are non-refundable.
