After disappearing from the underground’s hazy spotlight more than 18 years ago, MERCURY REV founder DAVID BAKER returns with an exciting new project alongside WILL MACLEAN, psychedelic pop band VARIETY LIGHTS. The duo made their Empty Bottle debut last October to support their stellar 2012 album Central Flow, out via Fire Records, an album MOJO praises for its “unexpectedly warming tunes from an individual long thought to have an aversion to conventional song forms.” A pair of vintage synth addicts, VARIETY LIGHTS combine analogue textures with electronic psychedelia, an array of drum machines, heavily effected guitars and layered, straining vocals to dizzying results that is sure to thrill in a live setting. Opening is ambient rock band MIRACLE CONDITION, a group who's been dubbed "shoegaze meets post-rock" by RCRD LBL, called "both haunting and beguiling" by Pitchfork and praised for "an angelic bombast displaying a new affinity for sublime space rock" by Time Out Chicago. Brooklyn post-punk trio Fan-tan began in 2007 when Ryan Lee and Sandee K moved from Chapel Hill, NC to Brooklyn, NY. After four years of touring and recording, they met drummer Mike Sherburn while on the road to SXSW in 2011. Fan-tan’s debut LP, A Strange Game, is slated for release in the fall of 2012 on Goodnight Records.

After leaving the public spotlight more than 18 years ago, Baker returns with his collaborator, Will MacLean, to debut the remarkable psychedelic-synth album Central Flow. Release date is June 12, 2012.

As a founding member and vocalist for Mercury Rev, Baker helped to forge their revolutionary sound with their first two (and most critically acclaimed) albums; Yerself Is Steam (1991) and Boces (1993).

Having left the band in 1993, Baker went on to release a solo album World under the moniker Shady, which featured members of the Boo Radleys, Rollerskate SkinnySwervedriver and Th’ Faith Healers.

Miracle Condition is a trio featuring U.S. Maple guitarist Mark Shippy and drummer Pat Samson, with Matt Carson on guitar and vocals. The group formed in late 2006 and quickly morphed their more experimental leanings into their own brand of cinematic, illustrative spacegaze. Where U.S. Maple was known for deconstructing rock music, Miracle Condition traffics those images seen in the moments between sleeping and waking, pushing the sonic envelope into the dream world. Layers of guitar, sheets of percussion and fragile, glasslike voices from Shippy and Carson hint at elements of the psychedelic and shoegaze genres. In the live setting Miracle Condition is shatteringly loud - the droning interrupted by Samson's uniquely expressive drum patterns. With their forthcoming release on the Tizona label, Miracle Condition will undoubtedly command attention from anyone within earshot.
