Get ready to turn it up to 11, people, legendary "post-rock" pioneers TRANS AM are coming back to the Bottle for their first time in damn-near three years! The trio is on tour for their newest album, Volume X, out May 20th on Thrill Jockey Records - that's the same week as this show! The band has recorded over 10 albums for Chicago-based independent record label Thrill Jockey and toured the world non-stop (or so it seems). What have you been doing with your life the last two decades? Their “ZZ Top meets Casio” sound has been pushing the envelope of pre-conceived genres for years and the new album is no different. Volume X presents fans with strange and familiar sounds in new contexts, from komische rock to futuristic speed metal to variants on class rock. We predict maximum head-bobbing throughout the set tonight. Local mind-blowers CAVE return with their expansive, Krautrock-worshipping spaced-out trance-rock fraught with hypnotic synths, aggressive percussion and hard rocking guitar. On their 2011, mostly-instrumental LP for Drag City, Neverendless, the fella’s give new meaning to the phrase “extended jam” with tracks driven by heavy riffs and drenched psychedelics. Their newest LP, Threace, out last year on Drag City, sees the ever-expanding CAVE continue to move the earth as they reach for heaven, taking us all higher with their (never)endless jamz. Psychedelic rockers KAVA first met while each member was performing in AFROZEP, a national touring act that fuses African influences into LED ZEPPELIN covers. The trio took to original songwriting when they decided to pack as many instruments as they could fit into their cars and drive to a remote cabin for a weekend of sonic experimentation. The results span the rock spectrum, from tightly composed, odd-timed grooves to 15-minute minimalist grooves to SABBATH-inspired psychedelia. KAVA has released two EPs and one full-length, Shikaakwa, which was released in the summer of 2013, and continues to hold songwriting retreats, tour the country and perform local shows (often fully improvised).
