Hailing from Detroit, three-piece audio-visual art squad RITUAL HOWLS are meat machines crafting sound and light to fit their particular vision. The group creates melodic, art-damaged noise-rock while projecting found video samples of collisions, scrapings on concrete, pounding metal & oak over their live performance. This is the kind of feral art that leaves claw marks on your soul. Industrial rock meets cinematic deathrock. RITUAL HOWLS create a surreal, introspective gloom that could fuel a disco in hell, a soundtrack to your favorite nightmares and most grisly fantasies.
Toronto-based "Industrial surf-gaze" monsters ODONIS ODONIS are returning after their last show in 2015 with experimental psych weirdos ICE BALLOONS. Born out the same DIY scene that spawned METZ, HSY, GREYS and more, this trio cut their teeth at the now defunct Buzz Garage, where they built a solid foundation as a crushing live band. Their 2014 Polaris-nominated album, Hard Boiled Soft Boiled, found ODONIS ODONIS pushing the sonic envelope into new territory, because much like the hypnotic spiral that came to be associated with the band’s earlier efforts, these fellas don't follow a linear path. The band's live show is the point where the diverging influences and hypnotic visual aesthetic collide into something that is maddeningly stunning -- don't miss it.
Local outfit NEW CANYONS returns to deliver their extremely likeable take on melodramatic, icy synth pop. The duo has been dominating the Windy City since they're debut album, Everyone is Dark (too true). A little electronic mixed with a little shoegaze, they've blown us away more than once and we're thrilled to have them back.
Visual artist and HIDE singer HEATHER GABEL DJs throughout the night.
