Hailing from Detroit, three-piece audio-visual art squad RITUAL HOWLS are meat machines crafting sound and light to fit their particular vision. The group creates melodic, art-damaged noise-rock while projecting found video samples of collisions, scrapings on concrete, pounding metal & oak over their live performance. This is the kind of feral art that leaves claw marks on your soul. Industrial rock meets cinematic deathrock. RITUAL HOWLS create a surreal, introspective gloom that could fuel a disco in hell, a soundtrack to your favorite nightmares and most grisly fantasies.

Toronto-based "Industrial surf-gaze" monsters ODONIS ODONIS are returning after their last show in 2015 with experimental psych weirdos ICE BALLOONS. Born out the same DIY scene that spawned METZ, HSY, GREYS and more, this trio cut their teeth at the now defunct Buzz Garage, where they built a solid foundation as a crushing live band. Their 2014 Polaris-nominated album, Hard Boiled Soft Boiled, found ODONIS ODONIS pushing the sonic envelope into new territory, because much like the hypnotic spiral that came to be associated with the band’s earlier efforts, these fellas don't follow a linear path. The band's live show is the point where the diverging influences and hypnotic visual aesthetic collide into something that is maddeningly stunning -- don't miss it.

Local outfit NEW CANYONS returns to deliver their extremely likeable take on melodramatic, icy synth pop. The duo has been dominating the Windy City since they're debut album, Everyone is Dark (too true). A little electronic mixed with a little shoegaze, they've blown us away more than once and we're thrilled to have them back.

Visual artist and HIDE singer HEATHER GABEL DJs throughout the night.

"Paul Bancell, Ben Saginaw, and Chris Samuels are RITUAL HOWLS. They are meat machines making noise and sights. Noise with an ebb tide of melody. They collect samples of collisions, scrapings on concrete, pounding metal & oak. Chris Samuels, formerly of DI_SECT, time stretches the samples and sequences them along with the beats. Ben Saginaw, painter of nineteenth century criminals, collector of wandering lines, gives the low end it's grip. Paul Bancell. Words and music. Feral. Leaves claw marks on your soul."

Since their blown-out 2011 debut Hollandaze, Toronto trio Odonis Odonis has continued to push their sound further into the depths of post-apocalyptic experimentation. Following 2016's foreboding Post Plague, No Pop is the band's starker, more dance-floor-friendly fourth LP.
Executed with precision, every sonic component of No Pop commands attention. Stripping down instrumentation to a handful of synths and an electronic drum kit, the band worked quickly to write and record, bringing demos and improvised takes into the studio and completing the recording process over the course of three days. The result is a focused blend of hard-hitting industrial, techno, and noise – but each track on No Pop is never just one of those elements. Pulsing rhythms lay the ground for textural soundscapes masterfully woven together to create a palpable sense of doom that is thick and satisfying.

Here's to a blinding light we thought we had lost, New Canyons. Andrew Marrah and Adam Stilson are a duo who have dug there way out of the trenches and onto higher ground. These members have been in a handful of great Michigan bands. Struggling to keep their groups together, they decided not to. New Canyons are on their own terms with something completely different to bring to the table.

"NEW CANYONS members Adam Stilson and Andrew Marrah previously found voice with Lansing-based band VEGA, whose moody atmospherics left plenty of room for powerful post-punk dynamics. NEW CANYONS explores a more insular electronic territory that still delivers cathartic emotional content. Rumor has it they are soon to ship off for a certain major city in Illinois."-Scene Metrospace
