Chicago's BARE MUTANTS is a group comprised of some of our favorite local bands – The Ponys, Mannequin Men, The 1900s and Like Pioneers. Their gorgeously laid back sound and smoke machine obsession have had us swooning since mid-2011 when they first played our stage, and since then they've opened for some damn big acts; legends like Roky Erikson, Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees. Meanwhile, Chicago/Milwaukee outfit CIRCLES has picked up some solid press clips: The Detroit Daily Press calls the quartet “pop music for educated, upper-middle class, pretentious white people” (ha!) while The Pittsburgh Three River Times calls a CIRCLES live performance "akin to the long awaited sequel, Goonies II, with the treasure chest full of pills instead of gold." Chyea! Plus it's their record release party so...And in continuing the "Chicago band" theme of the evening, local five-piece OUTER MINDS will dish out their refreshing take on 60s rock & roll, filtered through enough dreamy reverb to send you into a psychedelic stupor.

Think of the hazy, repetitive, percussive driven groove of early Velvet Underground (but with less cacophony) with the pop sensibilities of the later Velvet Underground / early Lou Reed. ~ Andrew Hertzberg, Windy City Rock.

Chicago’s explosive and underrated Outer Minds have finally come to the surface after simmering in the underworld in several different incarnations over the past few years, and with unbelievably great results. Sharpening their sound into a legion of 60s pop/psych textures and nuances normally reserved for the baroque set with their impeccable glockenspiel-laden arrangements, Outer Minds weave a rich web of sound around impossibly perfect hooks and deliver an impressive EP worthy of your immediate attention. Lead by Zach Medearis (Black Beauties, Lover!) and A-Ron Orlowski’s (Baseball Furies, Lover!, Dirges) fine assemblage of rough-cut harmonies, the band has gone through more name and roster changes than most, but once the current lineup coalesced into the tight-knit unit performing today, everything fell into place to create this sumptuous wall of sound that will blow your little mind to bits.
