GIL SCOTT HERON
Gil Scott Heron (April 1, 1949 – May 27, 2011) was one of the most prolific and iconic musical figures of the 21st century. Known as a Soul and Jazz Poet, Musician, Author and Teacher, Gil’s lyrical content concerning social and political issues of the time connected to the hearts of millions of people both in America and abroad.
Spoken Word Artist and Rappers have bestowed him with the title of “Godfather of Rap” but Gil defined himself as a “Bluesologist.” He has authored several books and his recordings have received much critical acclaim, especially one his best known compositions “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised’. Scott-Heron received a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award (posthumously) in 2012 and he has also been included in the exhibits at the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC).
Kim Jordan toured the world as GIL SCOTT HERON's Musical Director for more than three decades until his untimely death in 2011. She pays homage to Scott Heron’s legacy by “Remembering Gil” through this Tribute Concert on what would have been his 68 Birthday. This interactive Multi-Media Experience features audio and video footage of live performances highlighting the relevancy of Gil’s music that continues to speak to the social ills plaguing our society.
