Donald Harrison returns to Los Angeles for a rare club appearance at Catalina's Jazz Club on the heels of his critically acclaimed and crowd pleasing performance at The Playboy Jazz Festival. The saxophonist received a standing ovation that included host George Lopez and actor/singer/comedian Jamie Fox. Harrison has been called one of the most innovative and influential saxophonist of these times by Jon Parales of The New York Times and Howard Reich of The Chicago Tribune. He presents an eclectic repertoire during his performances that may include playing the history of jazz and sounds from his recording, "Nouveau Swing," which mixes the swing beat with the modern dance beats of funk, soul, rock and R&B to form a new hybrid style of jazz. "Nouveau Swing" was chosen by KKJZ as one of the eighty-eight essential albums in jazz music. Selections from his recording, "The Tropic of Cool," which crossed over into R&B radio stations and has been on The Wave for over twenty years will also be performed.
