The Kitchen presents a weekend of film and music celebrating the life of musician and composer Arthur Russell, a maverick figure in the downtown New York music scene from the 1970s until his untimely death in 1992. Russell?s distinct electro-acoustic sound as a cellist and vocalist traversed the worlds of pop, rock, and new music. He also released hit disco records under assumed monikers including Loose Joints and Indian Ocean, which revealed his understanding of the radical potential of dance music. Two concert evenings demonstrate the broad spectrum of Russell?s innovative and prolific output. Two generations of musicians perform their own versions of Russell?s material including interpretations of his songs by special guests to be announced and well as performances of his instrumental works for large ensemble.
