Glitter Creeps is tearing 2017 UP! This Rock/Punk/New Wave queer night has been throwing some of the best damn parties around since bringing their party to the Bottle. Hosted and co-curated by siblings Donnie & Madison Moore of ABSOLUTELY NOT, the monthly showcase was declared Best punk-rock LGBTQ night in Chicago Reader's 2015 Best Of issue and was included in Chicagoist's Best Queer Nightlife In Chicago. Each month brings new and exciting bands from Chicago and beyond to perform on our stage and we're stoked for the lineup that they've put together tonight, which will double as a benefit for Chicago Center for Music Education.
Headlining tonight's GC is THE SUEVES, a band that's been blowing up all over Chicago the past few years and show know signs of slowing down. These dudes are an explosive package of sweaty garage-blues-punk not unlike the BLACK LIPS or OBLIVIANS. Let's be real, there's no reason to ever miss THE SUEVES, especially now that they've got a record out on the inimitable HoZac Records and have been picked as a favorite of freakin' CORIN TUCKER of freakin' SLEATER-KINNEY!
Lo Fi Chicago punk band SPEED BABES was formed on a bet by Jesse Ewan when he said he could write and record an entire record in under 24 hours that was better than a record being played at that moment by a coworker. He then went on to write and record Let's Go Explode, a 12 song record, in 18 hours. The song was recorded entirely on his iPhone's GarageBand app. A few of his old bandmates from AMERICAN COSMONOAUT and LASERS AND FAST AND SHIT (Ewan was the original guitarist) prodded him into making this new project into a live act. Ewan did not want to, since he is not known for his glorious singing voice, but he went along with the plan and SPEED BABES were born. What a time to be alive.
Chicago-via-Savannah, GA duo THE LIPSCHITZ call their sound "garage yacht," which would be dead-on if you packed the city's wildest rock & rollers onto a fancy-ass boat filled with booze and drugs and fireworks and let them sail off into the sun. Then remember that THE LIPSCHITZ are just two people and that they're making some of the rowdiest, most blown-out garage-punk this town has to offer. It's tickled our pickle in more ways that none, so be sure to show up early, kiddos, cause these fuckers are for real.
