21 years and over
KACEY JOHANSING was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan and raised in the mountain towns of Colorado. After leaving Berklee College of Music in Boston, JOHANSING relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she spent a decade creating a community of musicians, artists and filmmakers, co-founded the duo Yesway, and released two solo albums. She has toured internationally and shared the stage with such acts as ANGEL OLSEN, KINGS OF CONVENIENCE, CHRIS COHEN and LITTLE WINGS, and has collaborated with members of MY MORNING JACKET, REAL ESTATE and FRUIT BATS. On June 2nd she released her lovely third album, The Hiding, on her own Night Bloom Records. Brooklyn Vegan hails the new record as "gentle and sunny, steeped in late ’70s soft rock but sounding very much here and now," while Paste calls her single "Hold Steady" "a gentle stroll down the hazy Northern California seaside." Very nice stuff, we think you'll enjoy it.
Chicago singer-songwriter/producer GIA MARGARET shares the co-headlining slot with Johansing, bringing a fresh dose of heartbreakingly gorgeous songs that she's priming to self-produce and release in the near-future. Though the current incarnations of her music (primarily on her Soundcloud page) resemble bedroom-pop and lo-fi folk songs, MARGARET is looking to expand into new sonic terrirtories. An early-2017 Chicago Tribune feature reveals that, "After picking up a variety of musical styles and instruments — from guitar to piano to synths — she is eager to piece together a sound that is representative of her personal artistic vision." We're excited to witness the eclectic and promising local for the first time here tonight.
THE PREDICTIONS are a three-man skeleton rock crew from Chicago and they're returning to us for the first time since last August. With only some six strings and a simple drum set up, the trio's understated songs have a way of hooking their claws into unsuspecting listeners and whisking them off to unknown sonic territories. These are some damn fine songwriters and word on the street is they've got new material to share -- don't miss out.
