Legendary psychedelic rock band whose hit album In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida sold 30 million copies.
Formed in 1967, the year that spawned The Summer Of Love, Iron Butterfly went on to become one of the most influential rock bands of their generation. Their sound defined psychedelic music; and their classic hit song and album In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida went on to sell 30 million copies, making it one of the best selling albums of all time. The songs "Soul Experience," "Easy Rider (Let the Wind Pay the Way)," "In the Time of Our Lives" Beyond the Milky Way" all also climbed high on the charts. Led Zeppelin was their opening act and they were booked to play Woodstock, but got stuck at an airport.
But it was and still is their live shows that Iron Butterfly are most famous for. Heavy percussion provides the anchor for a hazy Hammond B3 and phased guitars saturated in distortion. In seconds the audience is drawn into a delightful psychedelic whirlwind.
