Because of his love for music and his desire to share it with others, Ralphi Rosario began spinning records for friends in the late night party scene in Chicago during the late 1970’s. Almost a quarter of a century later the Grammy nominated legend still spins for much larger crowds of friends at massive parties worldwide. Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Brazil, Canada and Portugal to name a few.
Ralphi Rosario got his start as a founding member of the influential Chicago DJ group the HotMix 5. When this group formed in 1981 on radio station WBMX, Rosario, the youngest member of the group, was still in high school. The Hot Mix 5 went on to become one of the leading forces in the early Chicago house music scene. Creating music history in Chicago and around the worldfor decades to come.
The Hot Mix 5. The American DJ team originating from Chicago, Illinois. The founding members were Ralphi Rosario, Farley ‘Jackmaster’ Funk, Mickey ‘Mixin’ Oliver, , Kenny‘Jammin’ Jason, and Scott ‘Smokin’ Silz. Created to act as the resident DJs on Chicago FM radiostation WBMX's Saturday Night Live Ain't No Jive mix show, the members quickly established themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Soon Friday Night Jams, Mini Mixes and specialty edited remixes were added. The Chicago house music scene exploded as the Hot Mix 5 show and WBMX became the#1 Radio show in Chicago. Airing a new sound called House Music that was presented by theirunique style of turntablism. Each of the 5 member’s of the DJ crew were known by their ownediting turntable skills and incredible unique style.
Soon the Hot Mix 5 Radio show becameknown all over the world, as their mixes were recorded to cassette and sent across America andoverseas. Together with this new emerging genre called House Music, they broke most every classic Chicago House music record while airing to millions of Chicago listeners. Many of theTop Djs in the world have recognized the Hot Mix 5 as a major influence and inspiration, as to setting the bar of what a DJ can be. Ralphi’s crossover hit ‘You Used to Hold Me’ featuring singer Xaviera Gold, released as a singlein 1987. The song was a mega hit and remains Rosario’s most popular song becoming an overnight Chicago house classic. An over and underground hit that continues to be a successfuland time tested Chicago house music anthem.
Ralphi hasn’t stopped creating music. Besides the classic ‘You used to hold me’, Ralphi has worked with and remixed many incredible pop stars including Beyoncé, Donna Summer, Lady Gaga, Depeche Mode, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Goldfrapp, Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Gloria Estefan, Nelly Furtado, Pet Shop Boys, Ricky Martin, The Ting Tings, RuPaul, Kelly Rowland, Dave Aude, KC and the Sunshine Band, Selena Gomez & the Scene, Stevie Nicks, Yoko Ono and many more.
In 2012 He received a Grammy Nomination for his work as Rosabel with his long time production partner DJ Abel (As his Rosabel Moniker). The song was Rihanna’s “Only girl (in the world). Major label credits include Atlantic, Arista, Epic/Sony, Island Def Jam, Columbia & countless others.
