Empty Bottle, Chicago, IL
21 years and over
On March 26th, we're throwing it back to an old Empty Bottle tradition with TORTOISE - two shows, one night! The Chicago mainstays have played at the Empty Bottle over a dozen times. Twenty-plus years after its founding, the band's signature and singularly inimitable sound - a fluid intersection of dub, dance, jazz, techno, rock and classical minimalism, with no part overwhelming or dominating the whole - remains an American and international institution. Calling the "post-rock" ensemble prolific is an understatement. Continually forging new sonic territory, the revered quintet have been at the forefront of musical innovation since the early 90s, and they are widely thought of as one of the most dynamic and enduring ensembles to have emerged in the Chicago rock landscape. THE LONESOME ORGANIST began in 1996 (over 20 years ago) as a solo project of Chicago based musician JEREMY JACOBSEN. After releasing three albums on the esteemed Thrill Jockey label, his most recent album, Ashes... Alas is self-released. A renowned and world-traversing musician, THE LONESOME ORGANIST has performed on our stage over fifteen times and played such festivals as DAVID BOWIE's 2002 Meltdown Festival and at the SHELLAC-curated ATP in 2002. JACOBSEN has also recorded with such luminaries as the JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION, RED RED MEAT, MAN OR ASTRO-MN?, FIVE STYLE, and composed music for Redmoon Theater as well as The Chicago Complaints Choir.
2017 marks our quarter life crisis, and we want to celebrate with all of you! We're bringing back bands of Bottle's past for an EB25 series throughout the year. Come one, come all - let's party like it's 1992.
