Presenting the perfect antidote to the Wintry winds: The JAZZ AGE TEA DANCE.
Historic WEBSTER HALL, circa 1886, returns to its roots as Manhattan's
seminal dance hall and meeting place.
Hosted in the palatial Grand Ballroom, MICHAEL ARENELLA & HIS DREAMLAND
ORCHESTRA will warm you with the finest Fox Trots this side of Shanghai.
In homage to the grand British colonial tradition of the afternoon tea
dance, a complimentary spread of exotic teas will enliven your senses and
soothe your sniffles.
Tickets include complimentary tea service, cash bar of tantalizing cocktails, and exciting treats for all!
A magical program of additional guest acts will be announced soon!
Complimentary dance lessons for all at 3pm.
The second annual Jazz Age Tea Dance will be at Webster Hall once again this year, which was a dance hall for jazz dance bands dating back to Prohibition and reputedly owned for a time by Al Capone. Its Grand Ballroom hosted musical greats from Louis Armstrong to Frank Sinatra. Tea Dances harken back to British colonial times and took place from Shanghai to Jodhpur. They were opportunities to mix and mingle.
This daytime event features the eight-piece Dreamland Orchestra led by Michael Arenella and playing a selection of tunes from the Great American Song Book, as well as holiday favorites. Dances include:
Foxtrots, Charlestons, Peabodies, Waltzes, Cha Chas and Rumbas.
The Canarsie Wobblers are a wily, swinging dance troop cut from the same cloth as the great vaudevillian hoofers. They conjure the “Flaming Youth” of the Jazz Age.
