Additional Information

MERCHANDISE is a band fighting against easy categorization, equal parts punk misanthropy, maudlin balladeering, fine art, low humor, classical study, psychedelic spacecasing, mad science and pop genius. Etcetera. Formed as a trio in Tampa, Florida in 2008, the band has undergone ceaseless revision and reinvention. After putting out numerous records and tapes on independent punk labels and touring the underground, the band truly hit its stride with the release of their second LP, Children of Desire, in April 2012. 2013 saw the band releasing Totale Nite on Iowa City’s Night People and touring extensively throughout America and Europe. Merchandise's first album for 4ADAfter The End, will be released on 25th August 2014 - prepare yourself, if that's even possible. Part of Copenhagen’s thriving underground punk scene, the same one that spawned hardcore kings and Empty Bottle vets ICEAGE, four-piece LOWER brings the same earnest intensity as their peers and has emerged as a promising new voice in contemporary punk rock. Their visceral, dense and beguilingly poetic attack combines no wave abandon with post-punk finesse to create noisy, joyless carnage that’s ominous, frantic and fucking exhilarating. Their 2012 EP, Walk On Heads, was a thrilling introduction while their debut album, Seek Warmer Climes (Matador), sparkles with the harmonic dissonance and high-strung urgency of their underground music forebears. Local punk-rock trio FINAL GRIN return to open the show, their first play here since opening for LOWER back in June of 2013 and we're stoked to have em back. Expect a short set cause these maniacs don't fuck around.
