Buy an advance ticket to tonight's show and you'll be entered to win a vinyl copy of JACCO GARDNER's debut album, Cabinet of Curiosities, along with a Trouble In Mind tote bag, courtesy of our friends at - you guessed it - Trouble In Mind Records.
We fell in love with Dutch multi-instrumentalist JACCO GARDNER way back in 2013, welcoming him to our stage twice that year, and tonight he'll be returning to our stage for another headlining performance. After releasing a criminally limited 7-inch in Europe earlier in 2012, GARDNER released a dense, double dose of hits on his 2013-released LP for Trouble In Mind. Cabinet of Curiosities is that record and it is a lurching, dreamy baroque-pop groover, with lush melodies cascading over driving drumbeats that conjure up images of SYD BARRET jamming with Revolver-era BEATLES. Heavenly psychedelic, GARDNER plays gem after gem, maneuvering his way around the various eras he visits and escaping the trappings of rip-offdom by creating a unique and stirring new approach. Chicago's BARE MUTANTS is a group comprised of some of our favorite local bands – The Ponys, Mannequin Men, The 1900s and Like Pioneers. Their gorgeously laid back sound and smoke machine obsession have had us swooning since mid-2011 when they first played our stage, and since then they've opened for some damn big acts; legends like Roky Erikson, Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees. Fans of ...AND YOU WILL KNOW US BY THE TRAIL OF DEAD ought to take note of tonight's opener, MIDNIGHT MASSES, a band that's both opened for AYWKUBTTOD and shares members. The group's latest effort, Departures, came out in late July and it continues TRAIL OF DEAD's wall-of-sound approach while taking more of a gothic approach to its psychedelic indie-rock.
